This Diocesan Movement is based on small prayer groups that seek to change themselves as well as their environment through Prayer, Study and Evangelization. This process begins with a three day retreat which consists of prayer, witness talks and sharing sessions. The candidates then go back to their own community to make a difference by their example and leadership.
All parishioners are encouraged to spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on the First Friday of each month. Adoration is held in the Ministry Center Chapel beginning after the First Friday 8:30 Mass and concluding at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday.
Men of Faith
Formed in 2011, the Men of Faith are one of the newest ministries at St. Walter Church. Their mission is to ignite Spirituality in men through Service, Faith Sharing and Prayer.
Some of the events that they have hosted are movie nights, health and safety presentations, evenings of prayer and meditation, witness speakers, and sports related activities. In addition, the Men of Faith volunteer to help with various needs of the parish.
The Rosary Group meets every Monday evening at 8:00 in the Marian Room to recite the rosary for the intentions of our community and all those who have asked for prayers.
During May and October, the Rosary is recited every night at 6:30 P.M. outside of church in front of the Mary statue. On Monday nights during these months, the Rosary is recited as the participants process around the campus with candles.
The Rosary is also recited during these months before all weekday Masses and after Saturday morning Mass.
The Vocations Ministry’s purpose is to inspire and encourage individuals in our community to boldly listen to and act upon Jesus’ invitation “to come and follow me” to a life of service and joy in the priesthood or the religious life. We consider ourselves an extension of the Diocesan Office of Vocations and work with the JAVA (Joliet Area Vocation Association) to publicize the information coming out of the Vocation Office and to carry out various programs that promote and support religious vocations. We welcome any new volunteers who would like to help us in our ministry to promote vocations to the religious life.
