THE VISION OF YOUTH MINISTRY

Youth Ministry is the mission of the Church to reach into the daily lives of young people and show them the presence of God. Youth Ministry provides young people with the opportunities to explore the mission of the Church in order to discern their own personal gifts. It opens doors to opportunities to explore the mission of the Church in order to discern their own personal gifts. It opens doors to oppoertunities for the use of those gifts within the context of community.  Youth Ministry must be liturgically based in Scripture and gospel values that are grounded in the Eucharist celebration of Catholic community.

GOALS OF ST. WALTER YOUTH MINISTRY

To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ; to draw youth to responsible participation in our faith communitys life, mission and work to foster each young persons personal and spiritual growth.

Meet our Totus Tuus Team!!

 

Hello! We are very excited to have the opportunity to teach Totus Tuus at St. Walter!  

Our names are Joseph, Grace, Jenna, and Freeman. Joseph is a second-year pre-theology seminarian for the Diocese of Joliet studying at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH. Grace is a second-year student at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. Jenna is a third-year prospective exercise science major at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. Freeman graduated with a degree in music performance from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL and will be a music director in Fenton, MI.

Get ready for a week of faith, friendship, and fun!

June 17-22 – Totus Tuus

June 21- 22 – Fun Friday/Service Saturday.  Join the SWYM teens for sleepover night at the parish including a bonfire and S’mores – followed by a day of service in our community.  See the youth ministry page on our parish website for a permission slip.

July 1 – 8 – Catholic Heart Work Camp Mission Trip.  The deadline to apply is fast approaching. See Tom Hollatz for an application. The cost is $300.00 for this week-long mission trip. This is a very rewarding and spiritual trip with daily mass, mission service and a nightly program. We will also be going canoeing on our free-day-Friday.

July 10 - Out and About to Find Jesus - Join us on our annual trip to downtown to serve the homeless.

July 20 – Senior Citizen service project.  Join us at the Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream to serve senior citizens at their monthly luncheon.  We will also be providing dessert for the seniors and playing bingo.

SWYM is seeking donations of $5 Walgreens or McDonalds gift cards.  We use these for our Senior Citizen service project and on our Out And About to Find Jesus trip to serve the homeless.  Please drop off any gift cards at the Ministry Center.

SWYM is looking for an adult female that would be willing to participate in the mission trip.  Please contact Tom Hollatz if you feel called to serve our teens during our annual mission trip with Catholic Heart!
